CANDLE CARE

By following these tips, you can properly care for your soy wax candles and enjoy a longer, more consistent burn time while maximising their fragrance throw and overall performance.
  1. Trim the Wick: Before lighting your soy wax candle, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch (about 0.6 centimeters). Trimming the wick helps prevent excessive flickering, smoking, and mushrooming, which can lead to a shorter burn time and uneven burning.
  2. First Burn: When lighting your soy wax candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the wax pool reaches the edges of the container. This helps ensure that the candle burns evenly and prevents tunneling, which occurs when the candle only burns down the centre, leaving wax along the sides.

  3. Avoid Drafts: Place your soy wax candle away from drafty areas such as open windows, fans, or air vents. Drafts can cause the candle flame to flicker and burn unevenly, leading to a shorter burn time and wasted wax.

  4. Burn Time: Avoid burning your soy wax candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Extended burning can cause the candle to overheat and produce excessive soot, leading to decreased burn time and diminished fragrance throw.

  5. Recenter the Wick: If the wick of your soy wax candle starts to drift off-center while burning, gently recenter it using a wick dipper or tweezers. A centered wick helps ensure an even burn and maximises the candle's burn time.

  6. Keep the Wax Pool Clean: After extinguishing your soy wax candle, check the wax pool for any debris such as wick trimmings or large dust particles. Remove any debris using a wick dipper or similar tool to keep the wax pool clean for the next burn.

  7. Storage: Store your soy wax candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Exposure to heat and sunlight can cause the wax to soften or melt, affecting the candle's appearance and burn quality.

  8. Use a Candle Snuffer: Extinguish your soy wax candle using a candle snuffer, or wick dipper instead of blowing it out. Blowing out the candle can cause hot wax to splatter and may create an uneven wax surface, which can affect future burns and reduce burn time. This is also a good time to recenter the wick if has started to drift from the centre.

  9. Trim Between Burns: Before relighting your soy wax candle, trim the wick to 1/4 inch to remove any excess carbon buildup. This helps maintain a clean burn and ensures optimal performance for each burn.

  10. Discontinue Use: Discontinue the candle when there is approximately 1/2 inch (1.5 cm) of wax left in the vessel. Failure to do this can cause the candle to get too hot and may result in vessel cracking or breaking.
